Abandoned Winter Olympics site

by Lunchbox

The 1984 Winter Olympics were held in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia...where now Google Maps will correct you to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. See, Yugoslavia existed in the time of the USSR.

But the communist empire there wasn't the only thing to fall. The grounds for the 1984 Winter Olympics look like a post-apocalyptic world. Kind of like Chernobyl, only without the radioactive death mists. Once the Olympics were over, and the athletes, commentators, reporters, and USSR dictators all left town, the monuments of athletic competition started to crumble.

Here's what it looks like today:

The medal podium for skiing

The judges stand for the ski jump competition

The ski jump area

This is literally the hotel the athletes stayed in

The bobsled track

A look up at the ski jump

The logo still stains the ground
