"Your child has cancer. It's bad. Really bad. We can't treat it here."
As a father of two, I can't imagine hearing anything worse from a doctor. Thankfully, I've never been in that situation.
However, I've met parents who have heard...
"Your child has cancer. It's bad. Really bad. We can't treat it here."
But then, those parents heard the doctor say something else.
"We're going to send you to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital."

St. Jude is the last chance these parents have to save their child's life. St. Jude isn't just another hospital. It's a research hospital. This is where treatments are developed for childhood cancers that don't have treatments yet.
And it's all done at NO CHARGE TO THE PATIENTS.
That's right. When you bring your child to St. Jude, you don't pay a thing. EVER.
Your insurance company doesn't get billed either. All of your child's treatments are free. Plus, they'll even provide you with lodging so you can be by your child at all times.
Not only that, but the research and treatment protocols developed at St. Jude are freely shared with doctors and hospitals world wide. That's right, hospitals right here in Central Wisconsin are saving children's lives with techniques developed at St. Jude.
So, how can St. Jude afford to do this?
You.
Every year, people just like you make donations to St. Jude. That's right. This hospital that provides free life-saving cancer treatments to children is completely supported by private donations. No govenment funding. No insurance companies. Just folks like you and I writing checks.
In addition to my on-air work on Rock 94.7 and Scary Terry's Saturday Nightmare, I also write and produce advertising for our sister stations. One of those sister stations, 101.9 WDEZ, does a big radiothon to benefit St. Jude.
A couple months ago, I had the opportunity to visit St. Jude for their big radio seminar. Country stations from all over the nation participate.

The statue is of St. Jude's founder, Danny Thomas
It was a life-changing experience.
But, as I was taking it all in, and listening to country radio's top talents talk about how they raise money for St. Jude, one thought kept going through my head.
"Why not METAL?"
I made some phone calls and sent some e-mails to a few people I know in the metal scene. They sent me some pretty nice stuff. For instance:
Autographed promo photos from Lacuna Coil, Arch Enemy, and Maria Brink (of In This Moment)
Autographed poster and new CD from In Flames
Fat stack of CDs/DVDs
Want all of that stuff (and more) for yourself?
All you have to do is be the high bidder in the first ever Scary Terry's Saturday Nightmare "Cancer's Worst Nightmare" Auction.
100% of your donation will go directly to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
If you have money coming back from Uncle Sam, please consider donating a portion of it to St. Jude and getting some kick ass metal merchandise in return!
A link to the auction will be posted in the next couple of days.
Be Cancer's Worst Nightmare.
Be Metal,
~ST
