Exploding Bag

by Lauri Loewenberg

“The nicest thing for me is sleep, then at least I can dream.” – Marilyn Monroe

Dear Lauri,
Last night I dreamed I was sleeping in my grandparents house. Someone left a bag in the hallway that was exploding over and over again.   – Beth 38, Nashville, TN

Lauri: Where your dream takes place is often a good place to start when deciphering it, as it will be a reflection of how you feel about some “area” of your life. Your grandparents’ house may mean that you feel some area of your life is getting old. The exploding bag is another clue. The way it explodes over and over again makes me think this is connected to some recurring behavior pattern. Are you or is someone around you the type that holds in, contains, your (their) anger only to finally explode? The fact that you are sleeping indicates you need to finally wake up and do something about it.

Beth replies: I'm facing a new stage of life, but really struggling with moving on and decisions surrounding "where do I go from here". I have an empty nest now so I could go anywhere and do anything I wanted as far as career and location are concerned. I'm toying with a few different ideas but often wonder if I'm too old to start over. As far as the exploding bag, I'm definitely the type to hold stuff in and let it build up. In fact, something has been coming up repeatedly in a relationship and I haven't dealt with it. I think I'm afraid I may explode at that person.  Wow.
