Baseball, Hot Dogs & Apple Pie

by Tom King

The saying goes that 'nothing is more American than baseball, hot dogs & apple pie" and as we head toward the Independence Day holiday I would agree. There won't be any apple pie at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point this week but there will be alot of hot dogs and baseball as the Stevens Point American Legion baseball team will host the annual Ed Kardach Firecracker Classic Tournament. I'll be there with our Wausau squad along with teams from Oshkosh, Beloit, Beaver Dam and Sun Prairie. And with the annual Riverfront Rendevous going on the just a short walk down the riverfront path it's always a nice getaway. Food, music, fireworks and some good baseball action all along the Wisconsin River. The games run Thursday thru Sunday. We play Oshkosh at 230 on Thursday, Stevens Point at 730 on Friday night, Sun Prairie at 930 & Beaver Dam at 5 on Saturday and Beloit at 10am on Sunday.

The Tournament is named for the late Ed Kardach who was the long time Legion coach in Stevens Point back in the 60's , 70's and 80's.

The Wausau Post 10 Bulldogs will be in action tonight and tomorrow night as well. We host Merrill tonight at Athletic Park at 7pm and play at DC Everest on Wednesday also at 7.

I'm going to be off on vacation for the next week but watch for updates right here on what's happening. Not only alot of baseball but we are also making our annual trek up to Bayfield next week.
