Don't Get Mad, Get Even

by Tom King

Kirk Gibson is on his way out in Arizona. It should be clear after his performance yesterday both on the field and in the press conference that his in-ability to forget about Ryan Braun's use of PED's in the past is clouding his judgement going forward. If you didn't see what happened last night, the Brewers beat the Diamondbacks again after Jon Lucroy hit his second homer of the game, a grand slam on the first pitch he saw off Brad Ziegler in the 7th inning, gave his team the lead. Ziegler was only in the game because Evan Marshall had just been ejected when he intentionally beaned Braun to load the bases. Marshall threw a pitch behind Braun before plunking him in the ass and receiving a fist bump from his manager and high fives from teammates after he exited. After the game Gibson refused to talk about the incident, which was apparantly retaliation for Kyle Lohse hitting a couple of batters earlier in the game. Marshall couldnt even keep a straight face while denying he did it on purpose. Gibson, who's on the hot seat in Phoenix, has been an outspoken critic of Braun's use of PEDS and it still grates that the Brewers knocked the Diamondbacks out of the playoffs in 2011. The Brewers handled last night well...no charging of the mound...no fisticuffs...just Braun trotting to first base and Lucroy hitting the first pitch he saw for a grand salami. Payback is a bitch.

An eight run fifth inning propelled the Woodchucks to another win and a move into first place. The Chucks beat Kalamazoo 10-5 and are now leading the South Division of the Northwoods League. Jack Klages had a home run and 4 rbi's in the win. They play in Green Bay tonight.

Got my ballot for the Central Wisconsin Baseball Hall-Of-Fame yesterday. this year event will take place at Athletic Park on Sunday July 20th before the Woodchucks/ Rapids game. I will be unable to attend as the Legion team will be in Marinette that day but I like the new format of tying it into a game at the field where many of the inductees played.
