MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - The mentally-ill and drug addicts will have more access to insurance coverage, under a bill Governor Jim Doyle signed into law Thursday. Doyle said he was proud to sign what’s known as the “parity” bill.

In most cases, coverage for mental health and substance abuse treatments cannot cost more than a group plan’s medical and surgical coverage – and there cannot be more restrictions. The law does have exceptions for employers whose costs go above certain amounts. Also, companies with 10 or fewer employees don’t have to follow the new rules.
