A North Terre Haute man faces multiple charges after a civil disturbance early Tuesday outside his home, that according to the Terre Haute Tribune Star.
Judge Michael Eldred found probable cause for the arrest of Brent Powers for public intoxication, battery by bodily waste and criminal recklessness.
Police were called to the area of Markle Street and Michigan Avenue at 12:11 a.m. Tyesday. Officers found Powers being restrained on the ground by an off-duty officer. A neighbor reported he had heard a gunshot, Childs said, and saw Powers outside his home swinging a shovel. The suspect’s wife reportedly told police her husband had been “drinking all night.”
Childs said that Powers was combative and was transported to Union Hospital to be checked out before being taken to the Vigo County jail. At the hospital, Childs said, Powers continued to resist police and medical personnel, reportedly spitting on people, kicking at people, grabbing a technician and trying to head-butt an officer.
Police eventually Tazed Powers, Childs said. The man’s blood-alcohol content was registered at .28 percent.
Powers was unable to be brought to court Tuesday because of his high level of intoxication.
The judge found probable cause for his arrest, and set his bail at $25,000 with no 10 percent allowed. Powers is to be in court on Friday for formalization of charges.
