WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Thursday praised Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd for his work on financial reform and pledged to work with him on a bid to overhaul banking rules.

Geithner issued a statement not long after Dodd confirmed that a bipartisan Senate bid to craft new rules had collapsed. Dodd said he will unveil his own legislative proposals on Monday.

"We look forward to working with him and the committee to write new rules of the road that will protect consumers, end 'too big to fail' and close loopholes," Geithner said.
