CONOVER, Wis. (WTAQ) - One of the five American soldiers killed during an insurgent attack in Afghanistan last week was from Wisconsin.
The Defense Department says 36-year-old Staff Sgt. Matthew West was with the 71st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group based at Fort Carson Coloroado. West's home town is listed as Conover in Vilas County.
His sister, Kristine Willis, tells the Traverse City Record-Eagle that her brother was a 1992 graduate of Gaylord High School in Michigan. Willis says West is survived by his wife and 3 children.
