MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - A woman who ran a child care center in a Milwaukee church has been sentenced to two years in prison for bilking state taxpayers out of $450,000.
61-year-old Jurlean Bailey was initially charged with illegally getting $950,000 from the Wisconsin Shares child care program for the working poor. But the figure was chopped by a half-million as the result of a plea deal.
Bailey had received a total of over $3 million from Wisconsin Shares from 2006 through early last year, when the state cut off her funding. She’s 1 of 9 people who were criminally charged with fraudulently claiming state reimbursements from Wisconsin Shares.
Another 180 providers who were suspected of bilking the program have had their lost their subsidies.
