WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Marathon County officials will be getting $44,000 in grants to help fund the metro-wide drug enforcement program next year.
Sheriff's lieutenant Chad Billeb says that funding will go towards keeping an investigator on the staff of the Special Investigations Unit through next year. “We send an investigator to that squad and this will keep funding that detective.”
Billeb says the county wants to make sure they're keeping the program running as well as they can. “The program has won accolades from the attorney general and from other community groups, and we want to maintain that.” He says that funding won't entirely fund an detective, but that it's a good start.
Both state and federal funds go into that grant, about 26-thousand in federal funding and 18-thousand in state funding.
