Ex-Sheriff's Sergeant gets 40 years prison for making child pornography

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Former Milwaukee County sheriff’s sergeant Philip Wentzel was sentenced to 40 years in a federal prison Friday afternoon for producing child pornography.

And if he’s still alive at the end of his term, Wentzel must spend 10 years under federal supervision.

Wentzel admitted drugging and molesting girls aged 6 to 14 on camping trips at Campbellsport. He then took sexually-explicit photos of the youngsters, and shares the photos on the Internet.

Authorities said they caught onto Wentzel last year when a search warrant was executed in Denver as part of another case.

Investigators said GPS data led them to the Campbellsport campground where Wentzel had rented a site since 2008 – and officers tracked the data to Wentzel’s cell phone and Internet IP address.

Wentzel resigned soon after he was charged in May, and he and his wife filed for divorce earlier this year.
