UPDATE: Hoenisch case delayed, Taylor Co. judge to preside over January date

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -  The former Marathon County probation agent facing criminal charges will not have an initial appearance in court tomorrow after all. Marathon County Judge Greg Grau has recused himself from the case of Kim Hoenisch. Taylor County Judge Ann Knox-Bauer has now been assigned the case.

Knox-Bauer's judicial assistant confirmed Thursday afternoon that the new initial appearance will be held in the Taylor County courthouse.  A tentative date has been set for 4:00 p.m. January 28th, but that could change depending upon attorney and court schedules.

Kim Hoenisch is charged with misconduct in public office, burglary, possession of narcotic drugs, and possession of a drug without a prescription. The criminal complaint claims she took pain killers from probationers under her supervision.

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections issued a press release Thursday confirming Hoenisch's termination December 19th.  Spokesman Jackie Guthrie says, "That's the date they became aware charges were going to proceed and the investigation showed misconduct."

Department of Corrections Secretary Ed Wall says, “Agent Hoenisch’s behavior impacts on the public’s trust in DOC to carry out our mission of public safety and offender accountability,” adding, “When we learned of possible misconduct, we immediately requested that the DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation investigate the allegations of criminal conduct. This type of behavior is contradictory to the mission and vision of DOC and will not be tolerated."

Guthrie confirmed that Department of Corrections officials have discussed employee drug testing in light of this case, and that the department’s policy is being reviewed.
