MARSHFIELD, Wis (WSAU) The Marshfield School District is considering major changes for middle school students. The current school building is 70-year-old and need major renovations. The board will consider whether the school building should be closed and students moved elsewhere.

Four options are being considered:

  • The first is to keep the middle school open, and spend about $5-million dollars on building repairs and renovations.
  • The other options are to turn Grant Elementary School into a grades 5-7 middle school. Current Grant students would be redistricted to other schools, and 8th graders would go to the high school.
  • Another choice would turn Grant to a 6th through 8th grade middle school, with younger students sent to other buildings.
  • Or to turn Washington and Madison schools into K-through-7 schools, with 8th graders going to the high school.

The school board says it will study all four options, and that a decision is at least a few weeks away.
