WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Volunteers will prepare tax returns this weekend for some Marathon County residents who may be eligible for a special federal tax credit.
You may qualify for the earned income tax credit depending on how much money you make and whether you are married or have children. You can find out whether you qualify by calling the United Way's 2-1-1 or logging on to their Web site.
The credit reduces your overall tax liability, which could lead to a larger refund or reduce the amount of tax you owe to Uncle Sam.
Volunteers with the AARP Tax Aide program will prepare tax returns for free on Saturday morning for those who qualify for the tax credit. You must set up an appointment through the United Way. Only a few spots remain.
