ALGOMA, Wis (WSAU) A state Assembly Republican says he no longer wants to be part of a system that puts politics over people. Representative Dick Spanbauer of Algoma said yesterday he will not run for a third two-year term this fall.
The 65-year-old Spanbauer was facing a primary challenge from Oshkosh custard stand owner Mike Schraa.
Spanbauer accused his colleagues of being quote, "more obsessed with politics than the real reason we're elected -- to serve the people." He said compromise has "gone out the window," and he's at the point where he doesn't have the patience for it anymore.
