Tuesday would have been the 70th birthday of Jimi Hendrix , and to commemorate the milestone a new theatrical film release of the guitar legend's entire Woodstock performance will be hitting screens throughout America.
The movie, Hendrix 70: Live at Woodstock , is culled from a digitally restored version of the original 16-millimeter footage of the August 1969 performance, and also includes a new, 5.1 surround sound audio mix by Hendrix's sound engineer Eddie Kramer .
Preceding the concert footage is a documentary, directed by Grammy Award winner Bob Smeaton , featuring never-before-seen footage and interviews with Kramer, bass player Billy Cox , drummer Mitch Mitchell and Woodstock promotor Michael Lang . The documentary reveals the struggle that went into staging the legendary festival and into securing Hendrix as its headlining performer.
The film will be screened in select theaters starting on Monday, November 26, and will open in other cinemas on various dates thereafter. A special page at
