Marshfield to review street light policy

MARSHFIELD, WI  (WSAU)   -  Marshfield’s Board of Public Works will study possible changes to the city’s street light policy.

That’s following requests for the installation of additional lights in dark, mid-block locations while current city policy provides for lights to be placed only at intersections.

Director of Public Works Dan Knoeck says there’s concern that adding lights in response to random requests, might set a precedent that could end up costing the city thousands. According to Knoeck, “If we had to go to a mid-block installation policy, it’s a big cost to the city.” Board member Ed Wagner suggested the policy could perhaps be modified to allow additional lighting on streets with irregular geometry, like curves or hills.

The results of that street light policy review will be presented along with some recommendations at the Board of Public Works meeting on December 17th.
