CRANDON, WI (WSAU) - One gang member convicted of stabbing a Wausau man in Mole Lake was sentenced yesterday. Another one finds out his fate tomorrow in Forest County court. 18-year-old Melvin Zarda was sentenced to four years in prison followed by five years of extended supervision for second degree reckless injury. He will also have three years of probation for false imprisonment. Zarda was originally charged with attempted homicide, but took a plea deal which included testifying against the other five gang members.
Wednesday, Craig McGeshick will be sentenced for his part in this gang attack.
Preston Krustensterna is scheduled for sentencing December 7th.
There are three more members of the Latin Kings gang going on trial in January for the February stabbing and beating. Dakota Tuckwab, Jesse Daniels and a 15-year-old boy from Wausaukee are also charged in this crime.
The victim’s name has been withheld, since the gang allegedly attacked him for planning to testify against a gang member in a Marathon County case. The 32-year-old Wausau man suffered four stab wounds, multiple lacerations and facial trauma. A 17-year-old pregnant woman was bound with duct tape during the same attack, but escaped.
