UNDATED (WSAU) A federal investigation is complete into the Abbotsford Theater fire that claimed the life of a volunteer firefighter. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health conducted the investigation. The fire last March included a roof collapse, killing Colby firefighter Jamison Kampmeyer.
The report says Kampmeyer died from smoke inhalation after being trapped by burning debris that fell on top of him.
The report also details a communication breakdown between the Colby and Abbotsford fire departments. They were using separate radio channels, and had trouble sharing information while they were trying to put the fire out. Since then both departments have agreed to do more mutual training.
