HAMMOND, WI (WTAQ) - There’s the “Running of the Bulls” in Spain – and then there’s the “Running of the Llamas” in Hammond, Wisconsin.
Llamas and their handlers will run in a race on Saturday afternoon on Davis Street in downtown Hammond, about 10 miles east of the Wisconsin-Minnesota border near Hudson.
Four heats are planned for llamas, and one for alpacas.
According to the event’s Web site, it started in 1997 as a customer appreciation event for the Hammond Hotel – and it did not start out as a race.
That came later, along with other events that now include a parade, a community band concert, a rib fest, and live music.
