PORT EDWARDS, WI (WSAU) - Groundbreaking is today for an addition and renovation project at a Wood County nursing home. Health Committee Chairperson Donna Rozar says Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards is owned by the county, and supervisors voted to proceed with the 2-point-3 million dollar project last spring.
Rozar says the renovations will happen in stages, and the new therapy wing could be ready in about seven months...
Before moving ahead with building plans, Rozar said the County Board debated if they should be still operate a nursing home. Once the supervisors agreed they needed to continue this service, They proceeded with plans and financing last spring.
Next summer, the oldest part of the facility will be torn down. The structure closest to Highway 54 and the Wisconsin River was built in 1927 and is not energy efficient, has an unusable upper level, and inadequate space. A total of 3-point-1 million dollars was borrowed to cover the renovations and refinance an older loan.
