RHINELANDER, Wis (WSAU) Rhinelander city officials say they're extending their deer-hunt within city limits because of an increase in the deer population. Complaints about deer eating people's gardens and shrubbery and causing other damage to property and cars are up.
The bow hunting season opened on Saturday. The city says it will give out bow permits within city limits through January 31st. That will be suspended during the gun-deer season November 14 through the 25th.
The city hunt is for antlerless deer only.
During Rhinelander's shorter season last year, only one deer was taken.
