UNDATED (WSAU) - Last night’s weather brought some lightning and high winds in the early evening. That led to some widely scattered power outages.
Wisconsin Public Service reports the area with the most affected customers was Rhinelander, with just over a thousand people out of service. Merrill had 965 customers without electricity. Another 900 were without power further east in the Wausaukee area. About a dozen other communities had power outages, and many are still without electricity this morning due to fallen trees and damaged poles. Just over five thousand total WPS customers were affected by the storm, which is just over one percent of their customers. Spokesperson Lisa Prunty urges everyone to stay away from down lines for your own safety.
Wisconsin Public Service had crews out all night. They expected that some customers would still be without power until later this morning.
