RACINE, WI (WSAU) - A Racine man will spend 20 years in prison for fatally shooting another man after a card game. 28-year-old Jeremiah T. Brown was sentenced friday, and told the judge he took responsibility for his "senseless act" apologizing to his family and the victim's family.
Brown pleaded guilty in July to second-degree reckless homicide while armed. The criminal complaint accuses Brown of shooting 34-year-old Terrell Byers at a private home in 2009. Prosecutors say Brown and Byers didn't previously know each other. The complaint says tensions developed during the night but eased after Brown left. Brown allegedly returned to the house with a gun wrapped in plastic and shot Byers in the lower back.
