WAUPACA, WI (WSAU) - The man accused of killing his girlfriend in a New London hotel was in court Thursday. 24-year-old Kevin Lombard waived his right to a preliminary hearing yesterday in Waupaca County court. He is now bound over for trial, and a not-guilty plea was entered.
Lombard told investigators he girlfriend Amelia Schmitz got into an argument at the hotel August 12. He said he tried to quiet her and restrain her by putting her in a headlock. They then fell off the bed and she became limp.
Lombard is charged with 1st-degree reckless homicide plus strangulation and suffocation.
He is being held at the Wisconsin Resource Center in Winnebago on a 500-thousand dollar cash bond.
