MERRILL, WI (WSAU) - The snowmobile season was longer than usual and for central Wisconsin, safer.
A minor crash was reported last week in Lincoln County involving two teenagers. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department officials say another minor incident involved a man who fell off his sled near Tripoli.
The most common citation written to snowmobilers is failing to stop at stop signs, followed by expired registration and careless operation. Lincoln County also reports more operating while intoxicated tickets than last year, but the season was considerably longer this year.
Overall, the Department of Natural Resources reports 19 people have died this winter in snowmobile mishaps.
Nearly all trails in the state are now closed, since contracts with landowners expired March 31st.
