If you want to be the first to see Metallica ’s 3D film, Through the Never , you’ll need to head to an IMAX theater. The band has just announced that they’ll be premiering the concert flick exclusively at every IMAX theater across North America for a full week starting September 27.
"For four guys in a rock band of average height, to get a chance to unleash their 3D film on IMAX screens the size of buildings across the country is a mind-blowing thought,” says drummer Lars Ulrich in a statement. “There is no better way to experience film and when you throw in the spectacle of music and sound this should amount to an unprecedented, unique and truly next level experience."
After Through the Never has its run in the IMAX theaters, it will expand into additional theaters starting October 4.
Through the Never features live performances from Metallica as well as a separate storyline that revolves around In Treatment actor Dane DeHaan . According to a statement on the band’s website, DeHaan will portray a member of Metallica’s stage crew who's “sent out on an urgent mission while the band is playing a rousing live set in front of a sold-out crowd and unexpectedly finds his world turned completely upside down.”
