VILLAGE OF WHITING, WI (WSAU) - Local officials and residents are pleased to end a two year long wait to get their neighborhood pond back. McDill Pond is part of the Plover River through Stevens Point and the Village of Whiting, but the water was drained in June of 2011 to allow for repairs to a faulty dam.
Department of Natural Resources officials have said they will begin refilling McDill Pond starting May 1st at a rate of about 6 inches a day. It should take 20 days to fill the pond.
DNR officials will restock fish in the pond, but they are asking fishermen to catch and release everything except carp this year. They are inviting people to catch or bow fish carp in an effort to improve the habitat.
