Ditman, bullpen hold Chinooks to two hits in 6-0 victory

MEQUON, Wis. (WSAU-Woodchucks) - Matt Ditman, Chad Kim and Max Ising combined to toss a two-hit shutout against the Lakeshore Chinooks with 13 strikeouts as the Woodchucks claimed a 6-0 victory.

Woodchucks starter Ditman was spectacular in his final start for Wisconsin. Ditman held the Chinooks scoreless through his six innings of work, allowing only two base hits while walking two and striking out seven batters. It was Ditman’s second scoreless outing after he threw a complete game shutout against Wisconsin Rapids on July 17th.

Kim would come out of the bullpen to relieve Ditman, and he equaled Ditman’s performance. In two innings, Kim recorded four strikeouts and only two base runners to maintain the Woodchucks lead. Ising got the ninth for the Woodchucks, recording two strikeouts in facing four batters to shut the door on the Chinooks.

The Woodchucks were able to break open the scoring in the top of the first as John Menken continued his hot streak at the plate. After a two-run home run last night, Menken singled through the left side of the infield with the bases loaded. The base hit brought home Edgar Figueroa and Austin Diemer to give the Woodchucks an early 0 lead.

The Chinooks pitching staff proceeded to hold the Woodchucks offense off of the board all the way until the top of the ninth. In the inning, the Woodchucks were able to plate four insurance runs. Wausau-native Dylan Detert recorded a two-run single with the bases loaded to make it 4-0. Two more runs came in to score on a bunt single by Kyle Haen and a groundout by Tell Taylor to extend the lead to 6-0.

The Woodchucks and Chinooks will square off again Saturday at Kapco Park to wrap up the two-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
