WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - Marathon County’s Medical Examiner is retiring. John Larson will leave his post after twenty-six years of leading the department. The registered nurse-turned-medical examiner will serve his last day August 30th.
The 54-year-old Larson has spent a lot of time working to prevent suicides, especially with teenagers.
Larson is looking forward to spending more time on his hobbies like photography and kayaking, and admits he won’t miss the phone ringing at 2:00 a.m. to go take care of dead bodies.
Larson’s assistant Jessica Will shall serve as the interim medical examiner until a new one is appointed. The position is elected in some municipalities, but Marathon County changed to an appointed medical examiner in 1991.
