STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - Stevens Point’s East Park Commerce Center will officially have it’s first new tenant later this year. City Community Development Director Michael Ostrowski says Service Cold Storage has the land they need to start construction of their new facility.

Ostrowski says the deal closed yesterday after Monday’s city council final land deal approval. “Common Council approved the purchase and sale of the current 37 acre parcel in the new business park. Twenty seven of those acres will be transferred to Service Cold Storage. We’d also be looking at having Service Cold Storage submit their site plan for the Planning Commission in September.”

Ostrowski says when the city negotiated a location swap, it really helped two Stevens Point businesses. Service Cold Storage will move to a site that could utilize rail transportation in the future. “They will be utilizing the Interstate, but they do have now the potential from them moving from the old business park, the Portage County Business Park to East Park Commerce Center, they now have the possibility to access rail if they need it.”

The previously selected site in the Portage County Business Park will now be the new world headquarters for Skyward, which makes software products for school systems.

The city’s startup loan to the company totals one-point-two million dollars. That includes $419,000 for engineering and site development costs, $20,400 to clear trees on the building site, and the extension of E.M. Copps Drive.

Construction could start as early as next month.
