WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - Labor groups in the Wausau area say they'll be out in force to help support a strike today
The strike is part of a series of protests across the country aiming to improve the wages of fast food workers. Organizer Melissa Alice Engles-Lewis says they're striking for the rights of minimum wage workers. "We're calling on corporations that are making millions and billions of dollars to come forth and volunteer to give their workers more pay and the right to form a union."
Engles-Lewis says these workers don't have the means to support families on their wages. "They're having a hard time paying their bills, putting groceries on the table. And no one wants to be on public assistance, but when you're working these sorts of jobs you have to be because you have no other options."
Workers at Hardee’s, Wendy’s, Radio Shack and other stores have pledged their support in the rally along with a number of central Wisconsin labor groups.
Today's rally is set for the corner of Rib Mountain Drive and Morning Glory Lane at 4 pm.
