WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Get ready for some road work in Marathon County this week.
Crews will be fixing the road surface on Highway 29 between County M and Fairview Drive near Edgar starting Monday, and taking road samples on Business 51 near Cedar Creek on Tuesday. Department of Transportation communications manager Kristin McHugh says these repairs are not set in stone. "Remember that these schedules are subject to change. Obviously weather has a big impact on what we do, so sometimes we have to stop and start again, or reschedule work. We just want to make sure people know it's going on."
Of note is the Rothschild work which will be taking place near the interchange at Cedar Creek. McHugh says drivers should be extra cautious on Tuesday. "Since there probably is a lot more traffic, especially in that Rothschild area with the holiday shopping, we want to make sure that people are paying attention to any lane closures or restrictions, and that they're giving it 100% of their attention. We don't anyone to get hurt."
McHugh reminds drivers that the rules for work zones do not change in the winter. "Keeping an eye on what the expectations are, from the barrels and the signs, and maybe traveling a little bit slower, traveling a little slower, keeping more distance between the car in front of you. And again, keeping a close eye out for those workers."
