WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAU) -- A Marshfield man could go to prison for abusing his infant son. 21-year-old Sebastian Suchomel is facing two counts of felony child abuse in Wood County Court.
Court records say Suchomel broke his son’s leg, arm, and two ribs. The child is less than four months old.
The charges could send Suchomel to prison for fifteen years, but he might get nearly twice as much prison time. That’s because he has a past felony theft conviction, meaning a judge could add twelve years to the fifteen year term.
The child’s mother told investigators Suchomel often plays with the child, but doesn’t realize his own strength. He also claims to have patted his back to burp him. A doctor examined the child, and told investigators he doesn’t believe the injuries are the result of an accident.
Suchomel is scheduled to make an initial court appearance January 6 at 9:00 a.m. Court records do not indicate if the judge set bond.
