Report shows UW-System professors paid less than national average despite raises

MADISON, Wis. (WSAU-Wheeler News) -- A new report shows professors in the U-W System are earning less than they could elsewhere, despite three years of raises.

The Gannett Wisconsin Media reports full-time professors at UW-Madison earned an average salary of just over 106-thousand dollars, but the median salary at 11 similar schools averaged over 134-thousand dollars.

While there is a difference in pay and the legislature continues work to close that gap, some professors say they are willing to accept lower salaries because of job satisfaction. However, a UW-System spokesman says the lower salary gap forces professors to leave for other universities and loses out on future applicants.
