MERRILL, Wis. (WSAU) -- A week ago, 57 dogs and puppies were surrendered to the Lincoln County Humane Society. As of Thursday’s deadline, the shelter received over 500 applications from people wanting to give the animals a new home.
Along with 500-plus hopeful applicants, the shelter has received a large outpouring of community support. They’ve been given donations of money, pet supplies, bedding, and even some donated veterinary services.
One of the biggest challenges the Lincoln County Humane Society is dealing with right now is storage space for the supplies and the need to screen the applicants before adopting the animals out to new homes. It’s the kind of challenge most shelters would love to have.
Humane Society shelter workers are hoping to place the dogs and puppies that are old enough to be on their own in new homes by New Year’s Eve.
