Diary is in for Janas case, trial may be delayed again

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- The Wausau woman accused of poisoning and stabbing her ex-boyfriend’s dog will not be able to keep her diary out of court, but the trial may be delayed again.

The attorney for 21-year-old Sean Janas has backed out of a motion to suppress a diary that talked about how she hated the dog she's accused of killing, and how she abused it and hoped it would die. In court, he explained to the judge that he found evidence that the diary had been obtained legally by police.

Judge Greg Grau ruled today that the trial would be held in Marathon County and that pretrial publicity would not be a problem in the case. He said jurors would be carefully chosen to prevent bias.

Prosecutors also asked the judge for another delay in the trial after scheduling conflicts came up. Grau said he'd only honor that motion if the trial takes place before the end of March. It's currently scheduled for January 21.

Both sides will meet later this week to see if a new date can be found.
