Muse has something in common with the Foo Fighters . Muse’s single, “Madness,” has held the top spot on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart for 18 straight weeks, tying the current record held by the Foos' 2007 single “The Pretender,” according to Nielsen BDS. Dominating the #1 slot on the tally is nothing new for Muse -- their single “Uprising” spent 17 weeks in the top slot when it was released in 2009.
Other singles that have managed to linger at #1 on the chart for extended periods of time include Green Day ’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams," Staind ’s "It's Been Awhile" and Red Hot Chili Peppers ’ "Scar Tissue," which each sat atop the list for 16 weeks. In addition, the Chili Peppers singles “Dani California" and "By the Way" each held the top spot on the tally for 14 weeks.
