MERRILL, Wis. (WSAU) - Lincoln County officials and user groups are working out the plans for an expo center to replace the demolished grandstand at the Lincoln County fairgrounds.
The proposal is still in the planning stages, but officials from Agra Industries are on board with support and design help for the project. Agra sales manager Tim Gruling says the proposed 7 million dollar project would be a boon for the community. "We tried to be innovative and come up with a facility that will fit into the budget of lincoln county and the residents of Merrill." Gruling says Agra is willing to provide either monetary support or steel work for the project.
The 7 million dollar price tag would pay for an enclosed expo center with a seating capacity of around 3400 people.
Lincoln County administrative coordinator Randy Scholz says the project will still need some work. "They're working on the planning and the by-laws for the user groups. We'll have to send this to the property committee for some votes and debate." The county has roughly $1.2 million dollars in funds that it needs to spend from the insurance payments from the grandstand.
