On his third go-round as guest host for Chelsea Handler on her E! show Chelsea Lately , Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl on Wednesday revealed during an interview with Elton John that the Rocket Man played on a Queens of the Stone Age track that was recorded last fall.

The interview was something of a gush-fest between the pair, beginning with the two recalling how they first met.

Grohl explained he was in London with his wife and a friend several years ago when they spotted Elton hurrying into his car. The starstruck friend wanted Grohl to introduce them, but the superstar's car drove off: only to stop and, to Grohl's surprise, drop Elton off so he could introduce himself as a fan of the Foo Fighters frontman.

Elton explained his decision to appear on the E! show by saying, "I do respect this guy so much, I think he's probably the most respected guy from his generation in the business, and I couldn't say no. And I love him dearly.”

The pair then discussed their until-now secret collaboration on a Queens of the Stone Age track, which Elton apparently recorded right after his duet with Engelbert Humperdinck . "I went from Engelbert Humperdinck to Queens of the Stone Age, which was a bit of a mindfu**," John joked.

No word on when or if the track will be released, but Queens of the Stone Age have said they plan to release a new album sometime in the first half of this year.

Elton also revealed that he's willing to play with a lot of bands, but hardly any asks him because they assume he'll say no.

Elton expressed his admiration for Grohl, saying, "I love him because he's still a fan of music. He's got so many different projects he plays on, he's got so many bands he's a part of,  and he has the time, he takes the time to champion people, and that's where I'm at, still, and I love people like this, so you know, he's a good guy."

When Elton told Grohl, "And one day, I'll play on stage with you, maybe,"  Grohl replied, "Promise?" Elton said yes.
