RHINELANDER, WI (WXPR) - The DNR's Snowmobile and ATV Coordinator hopes the public takes more care when venturing out onto the ice.
Gary Eddy says snowmobilers have been going through the ice repeatedly this season and in all parts of the state. He says it's not just snowmobiles. He says a number of cars and ATV's have also been dunked this winter.
With the severe ice fluctuations, Eddy says the smartest drivers have safety gear with them. He says there are several winter wear products now with a life vest built into them. Also, ice spikes allow you to get a grip on the ice and pull yourself out.
Eddy says the best safety device is to not go anywhere on the ice by yourself.
