OSHKOSH, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Former U-W Oshkosh baseball coach Tom Lechnir is appealing the non-renewal of his contract. A university ad hoc committee will hold a hearing to decide if the appeal should go forward. If it doesn’t, Lechnir says he’ll go to court.
The 53-year-old Lechnir spent more than three decades at Oshkosh, including six years as an assistant. He led the Titans to a dozen W-I-A-C championships, nine appearances in the N-C-A-A Division-Three World Series, and a national title in 1994.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said Lechnir was let go after he questioned and challenged the university’s accounting practices. The paper said it resulted in Lechnir’s first sub-standard employee evaluation in his 31-year career. The university is not commenting. L
echnir is represented by Green Bay attorney Jason Wied (weed), a former Green Bay Packers’ vice president.
