Phil Anselmo says he wanted to create tracks that had a truly unique sound for his recently-released debut solo album, Walk Through Exits Only .
“I wanted to make a record that would be very, very hard just to slide into some genre or sub-genre of extreme music,” he tells Rolling Stone . “I wasn't after all the shiny gloss of a mainstream record. I wanted to make an ugly-sounding, very hard-hitting, percussive record.”
The former Pantera frontman is set to hit the road with his new band, The Illegals , to promote Walk Through Exits Only with a string of tour dates starting July 31 at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Anselmo adds that fans can expect to hear him perform the entire new album, as well as some of his “old favorites.”
“Each show will have its own personality,” he explains. “Each show is going to have its own spontaneity. We'll pull out something special for each crowd.”
