Gov. Walker denies knowledge of response to Wall buying state buildings

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Governor Scott Walker says as far as he knows, nobody from his office responded to Terrance Wall’s apparent interest to buy several state office buildings.

One media outlet said Thursday that the Madison developer wrote the governor last month, to express an interest in buying Madison’s state administration building, crime lab, and DOT facility among others.

Eleven days later, the Joint Finance Committee endorsed Walker’s request to give him the authority to sell state facilities without having to seek bids – as long as the finance panel and the State Building Commission give their blessings. That provision is now part of the new state budget.

Finance co-chair John Nygren says a good purchase offer will always be considered – whether it’s from Wall or somebody else.

Many folks outside of Madison didn’t know who Wall was until 2010, when he briefly ran for the U.S. Senate.

Walker says his “primary interest” at the moment is to sell state-run power plants to utilities. His administration said a few weeks ago it wants to sell rights of way which are no longer needed for highway projects.

Walker made his comments Thursday in Green Bay, after he helped dedicate the Packers’ new $143 million renovation of Lambeau Field.
