McKellips & wife bound over on perjury charges

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - A husband and wife both faced the judge Monday, both charged with perjury. Former girls basketball coach Rory McKellips and his wife Constance McKellips are accused of lying on the witness stand during Rory’s trial earlier this month. He was found not guilty of sexually assaulting one of his former basketball players, but guilty of using his cellphone to facilitate a sex crime. Rory McKellips will be sentenced for that in October, and could get up to forty years in prison.

The issue leading to the perjury charges comes from testimony during the trial that Mr. McKellips groomed his private area, when the teenaged victim said he didn’t. After the trial, coworkers at the paper mill that employed McKellips, and had seen him in the employee showers, came forward saying the teenager was right.

Both of them waived their right to a preliminary hearing. Judge Michael Moran agreed with prosecutors there was probable cause that a crime was committed, and bound them over for trial. A pretrial conference will be held August 13th.
