WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - The University of Wisconsin’s Madison campus isn’t the only campus with money problems. UW-Marathon County has a smaller one of their own.
Campus officials told Wausau Police they are missing more than $25,000. They believe the culprit is a former UW-Marathon County employee, 36-year-old former Marathon Hall residence director Matt Brklacich. Investigators say Brklacich accepted cash payments from students for fees and services, but didn’t deposit the funds into student accounts. Five UW Marathon County students and 10 Northcentral Technical College students were victimized.
The information has been forwarded to the Marathon County District Attorney’s office for possible embezzlement charges early next week.
The victims have been reimbursed by the college. The losses are under 500-thousand dollars, so it’s not covered by insurance.
