RACINE, WI (WTAQ) - A Racine County man has pleaded not guilty to killing his girlfriend’s three-year-old son by scalding him in a tub of hot water.
26-year-old Marcus Johnson of Mount Pleasant is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Hunter Wise in mid-May.
Prosecutors said the victim’s mother was at work when Johnson abused the youngster while watching him and two other kids. He told police he was upset that Hunter soiled his pants.
Authorities said Johnson punched the child in the mouth, whipped him, and burned him. The boy died later at a hospital.
Johnson is due back in court July 12th, when pre-trial requests will be considered. He’s in jail under a half-million dollar bond.
