FDL police search for stolen minivan; child inside found safe

FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - Police in Fond du Lac are searching for a man they say stole a minivan that had a child inside.

Around 5 p.m. Monday, authorities were called to Shopko at 616 West Johnson St. A woman reported that she went into the store, and when she came out, her minivan and 9-year-old son were missing.

Police determined that a man took the minivan, using the keys left in the ignition. The thief dropped the boy off in the area of Military Road and Seymour Street, then left south on S. Military Rd.

The boy had a cell phone with him and got in touch with his father. Police say the boy was not threatened or harmed. Officers don’t know if the thief knew there was a child in the minivan when he took it.

Police are still looking for the minivan and the thief. The van is a silver 2002 Chrysler Town & Country, with Wisconsin license plates reading IAMOOC.

The thief was described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s with hair that was short on top and even shorter on the sides. He was wearing a plain black T-shirt, long black shorts that hung past the knees and brown work-style boots. He also had tattoos covering both arms, specifically in the area of the right forearm and the back of the right hand.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Bill Ledger at (920) 322-3723.
