DELAVAN, WI (WTAQ) - A snapping turtle that was beaten on a golf course in southeast Wisconsin died Wednesday.
The female turtle was taken to the Pine View Wildlife Rehab center in Fredonia, but did not survive after a surgery that was scheduled Tuesday.
The state DNR said the turtle was looking for a safe spot for her eggs, when she was apparently attacked by a golf club on Monday morning at the Delbrook Golf Course in Delavan. The turtle was found in a sand trap with holes in her shell and an injured right eye.
The Global Conservation Club of Wisconsin has put up a $1,000 reward for information leading to the attacker’s conviction.
Tips can be reported to the DNR’s Hotline at 1-800-TIP-WDNR.
